Performance Companies at the Pulse

Nova Jazz

Nova Jazz is an innovative, high-energy, dance
performance company comprised of young adults. The highly trained and hand-picked members of nova jazz are proficient in styles ranging from theatre dance and jazz to ballet and Middle-Eastern dancing. As leaders in their schools and community, nova jazz members are required to maintain a disciplined schedule of performance classes as well as uphold high standards of academic achievement and community service.

Isadora Duncan Youth Ensemble

Isadora Duncan (1878-1927)
Isadora Duncan was the first dancer in Western World to create a new form of theatrical dance outside of classical ballet. Her technique combined simple, natural movement with a Greek aesthetic that revolutionized the art of the dance. Isadora believed that all movement should originate from the solar plexus, as it was closest to where the body housed the Soul, and should spread throughout the limbs in a continuous, undulating wave.

Meta Works

Meta Works - A Modern Company established in 2005 with the purpose of demonstrating the astounding aesthetics of modern dance to surrounding communities. These individually selected members range from ages 13-18 and are trained in the styles of modern, ballet, jazz, and Duncan. Meta Works members have performed in a variety of events including a fund raiser in NYC to raise money for Hurricane Katrina.

The Infinity Repertory Theatre Company

Infinity is a unique repertory theatre company run entirely by teens in consultation with adult advisors. Members of the Company have completed 2 years of study in the Conservatory program. They are responsible for all aspects of putting on a show within a budget, including picking the material, producing, directing, lighting, and sound.

Tap Orchestra

Tap Orchestra, The Pulse Performing Arts Studio's elite tap dancing company, not only performs locally but also is an award winning competition group. Premiering in April of 2005 at the Dancers Responding to Aids Benefit at SUNY Purchase College, this company has gone on to perform at 6 Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, Tap City at The Duke Theatre in New York City, as well as winning high achievements at Tremaine Dance Conventions, Bounce Dance Competition, and Hall of Fame Dance Competition.

Nova Jazz II

Nova Jazz II, the offspring of its advanced counterpart nova jazz, is an intermediate level jazz performance company.

Detente Hip Hop Company

Detente is the resident Hip Hop company at the Pulse. Translated as "peace" or a "joining of nations", Detente is directed by Erin Gallante. The company uses various choreographers such as Nick Zobrowski, Naike, and Erin Gallante. They have performed this year at Blythedale Hospital, the Mount Kisco parade as well as competitions and the Pulse performances.

Detente is a hip hop company dedicated to excellence and precision as well as entertainment. They pursue a fusion of different styles of hip hop and strive to entertain!

Pulse Pointes

Pulse Pointes - Created for dancers who work entirely on pointe during class and in choreography. Pulse Pointes dancers learn a variety of classical variations as well as new group choreographies created by Director Carrie Tron. They perform annually at the Youth American Grand Prix competition as well as in Pulse performances and other venues. Pulse Pointes is for Ballet dancers who have achieved level Four or above class status at the Pulse and dancers are chosen by invitation only.
